Charters Embark on Strategic Planning at Performance Management Institute
August 16, 2010
Not only a valuable networking opportunity where schools learns from each other's approaches and best practices, the PMI also guided these schools to transform their data into relevant measures of performance. Schools devised their own "performance frameworks" that help align daily activities with overall organizational performance. This work around strategic planning and performance management is important because it helps increase transparency and accountability throughout the school or organization.
The PMI was sponsored by the Building Charter School Quality (BCSQ) program, which reached out to CCSA about the opportunity. "CCSA encourages all charter schools to develop strategic plans that embody their school's mission and values," said Sabrina Skinner, Director of CCSA's ZOOM! Data Source student achievement data program. "It seemed like a natural fit to share this with our members."
As CCSA spread the word to membership about the free workshop, the response was so overwhelming that a second session was offered. Partners and sponsors of the BCSQ program include National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, National Alliance for Charter School Authorizers, Colorado League of Charter Schools, and CREDO.
If you were unable to attend the PMI, visit the BCSQ website to review the workshop materials. We also invite members to provide input about what resources and supports your school needs to improve student achievement. Please share your thoughts and feedback with Sabrina Skinner, who is helping navigate efforts to define CCSA's role within the realm of Performance Management.
