Charter Schools Flourish
Despite a downturn in the economy, the charter school movement is registering significant growth, as well as support from influential parties. The Associated Press visited a charter school in Oakland that's having great results, and shows how the school is changing students' lives. Charter Schools: States Ranking Report
This week, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools released its annual report ranking each state's charter laws. California's ranking fell from No. 3 last year to No. 6, yet the result was not due to backwards steps. For more, read the Alliance's Press Release, and the story in the Sacramento Business Journal.
Ventura-Area Charter School Gets Prop. 39 Classrooms
Bridges Charter School in the Conejo Valley Unified School District will receive two additional classrooms to meet their growing enrollment next year. The district's board unanimously approved the facilities for the charter school under Proposition 39. For more, read the story in the Ventura County Star.
Public School Choice Underway in Los Angeles
The second round of the Los Angeles Unified School District's Public School Choice (PSC) process is moving forward, with the community advisory vote starting this week, and continuing next week. Parents and community members will be able to cast their vote for the school model of their choice for 13 campuses up for bid, as identified by LAUSD.
