CCSA Set to Unveil New Proposition 39 Resources
September 14, 2011Proposition 39 application process now. The deadline for charter schools to apply for facilities under Proposition 39 is right around the corner, on Tuesday November 1, 2011.
The Association will once again offer a variety of resources for our members, including templates, pro-bono legal reviews for member applications in selected regions, and technical assistance from CCSA's Help Desk.
This year, however, we will also be trying something new.
Replacing previous scheduled workshops with our legal experts, we will be offering these workshops free, online and on-demand, which you will be able to access at your own convenience. These workshops will be offered by our trusted legal team and partners at the law firm of Middleton, Young & Minney.
In order to answer our members' questions, we will also be scheduling "office hours" with our legal experts, to assist charter operators with the process.
Look to future member communications, such as the Weekly Member Digest, for more information.
These enhanced supports are intended to help charter schools through the entire Prop. 39 lifecycle, from the November 1 facilities application deadline through the May 1 response to final offers, and beyond.
CCSA is encouraging all charter school members who need a facilities solution for the 2012-13 school to submit a Prop. 39 request to your school district and begin to engage the dialogue with school district officials early. Please contact your CCSA Regional Director, to let them know about your facilities plans and needs.
Last year, thousands of seats were secured under Proposition 39 for our charter school students, saving these members precious dollars that once went toward expensive leases, and are now redirected toward the classroom. But thousands of more Prop. 39 seats continue to be needed for charters throughout the state. Proposition 39 is one of CCSA's top priorities. For over a decade, Proposition 39 has required school districts across the state to provide charter schools with "reasonably equivalent facilities." CCSA continues to advocate for improvements in the quantity and quality of offers.
But we cannot do this alone.
Demand your Prop. 39 facility now. Your students deserve no less.
