The California Charter Schools Association is deeply disappointed with the actions of both the Carlsbad Unified Board of Education and the County Board of Education regarding the denial of a new petition and appeal of the Oxford Preparatory Academy's (OPA) new charter school.

OPA operates two high performing schools in Mission Viejo and Chino serving more than 1,500 students with API's of 972 and 993 respectively. North County Educators, parents and community members have clearly requested another instructional option so that all students have an increased opportunity for success.

OPA has answered the call to serve an unmet student need while these boards are sending a message that parent choice and high quality charter schools are not valued in North San Diego County.
