California Charters Among America's Best High Schools - Newsweek

Newsweek has released its ranking of America's Best High Schools and many California charter schools meet the mark.

In developing America's Best High Schools list, Newsweek considered the following factors: graduation rate, college acceptance rate, AP/IB/AICE tests per student plus the percentage of students enrolled in at least one, average SAT and ACT scores. In all, 37 California charter schools made Newsweek's list of the nation's top 2000 schools, including top scorers:

11-American Indian Public Schools, Oakland, CA
101-Pacific Collegiate, Santa Cruz, CA
113-Orange County School of the Arts, Santa Ana, CA
154-The Preuss School, La Jolla, CA
241-University Preparatory, Redding, CA

Transformative Schools

Newsweek also identified just 25 schools throughout the nation that it calls game changers. Ten California Charter schools were called out for doing especially well based on the number of students that fall below federal poverty lines:

6-Alliance-Gertz-Ressler High School, Los Angeles, CA
10-Alliance Huntington Park High School, Los Angeles, CA
11-Animo Oscar de la Hoya Charter High School, Los Angeles, CA
13-Animo Leadership Charter High School, Inglewood, CA
18-Animo Pat Brown Charter High School, Los Angeles, CA
21-Animo Jackie Robinson Charter High School, Los Angeles, CA
23-Alliance Marc & Eva Stern Charter High School, Los Angeles, CA

Top 25 in the West

The top schools were also considered on a regional basis. Congratulations to charters that were on the best in the West list.
