CCSA Submits Letter Calling for Support of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
February 3, 2015U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to support the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) permitting the federal government to continue to require annual testing in grades 3-8 and high school. CCSA advocated for the importance of collecting and publishing timely testing data in order to hold charters to a high and objective standard of accountability to increase student achievement.
The letter outlines the importance of tracking student progress, providing data to parents to inform their children's educational choices, and demonstrating concrete evidence of charter schools performance success to local school systems. Additionally, the federal government was asked, in partnership with charters, to share responsibility for protecting disadvantaged students and to maintain the government's investment in the innovative educational options offered by charter schools.
