240 Strong: Families Rally to Send Message About Voting on Charter School Bills

On Friday, April 17, more than 240 parents, students, teachers and charter leaders stood in unity to send a message that votes on legislation in Sacramento impacting charters public schools are important to Richmond families.

Parents were fully engaged in the grassroots rally with many speaking to the crowd and chanting "Parent Power" and "We Deserve a Choice."

Gathering at the Richmond Civic Center, the group sent a loud and clear message that families and charter schools care about conversations taking place in Sacramento on proposed legislation that will take away charter schools' independence and will make it easier to deny charters as well as proposed legislation to help charters serve more kids with better facilities and programs.

A strong message was also sent to elected officials like Assemblymember Tony Thurmond that families in Richmond are counting on him to lead on important issues affecting all public schools.

Charter schools participating included, Making Waves Academy, Summit K2, Caliber Beta Academy, Richmond College Prep Schools and Aspire Richmond.
