The National Charter Schools Conference (#NCSC17) took place last week at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Charter school supporters from California and across the country gathered to network, learn best practices from one another, and attend breakout sessions and keynote speeches. Check out some highlights:

At the conference, The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation and the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools announced that Success Academy Charter Schools was chosen as the winner of the 2017 Broad Prize for Public Charter Schools. The Broad Prize awards $250,000 to the large public charter school system that has demonstrated the best overall academic performance while closing achievement gaps and serving low-income students and students of color. The prize winnings must be used for college-readiness efforts.

Keynote speakers at the Conference included Reed Hastings (CEO, Netflix), Dr. Steve Perry (Founder, Head of Capital Preparatory Schools), Betsy DeVos (United States Secretary of Education) and Derrell Bradford (Executive Vice President, 50CAN and Executive Director, NYCAN).
