Position: Manager, Diversity, Outreach and Community Development Location: Southern California

Vision of Diversity in Leadership (DIL) Initiative
Eliminate the diversity gap between students and school leaders in California by increasing the talent pipeline of African-American and Latino/a leaders in charter schools. We will do this by creating avenues for leadership development, school growth, funding, and advocacy.


Description of Job
The Manager, Diversity, Outreach and Community Development, Southern California collaborates with CCSA cross-teams to align diversity programmatic goals and outcomes and assists with developing outreach strategies based on regional priorities for charter leaders. The Manager, Diversity, Outreach and Community Development, will also support the Chief Operating Officer in developing, facilitating trainings and building relationships with various constituencies.

The California Charter Schools Association Advocates (CCSA Advocates) is a 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to increasing the involvement of the charter school community in the public policy arena, creating a pipeline of charter school supporters and activists, electing public officials who support California charter schools, and growing the political influence of the California charter school movement. The Vision of the California Charter Schools Association Advocates (CCSAA) is to increase student learning by growing the number of families choosing high quality charter schools so that no child is denied the right to a great public education. The Mission of Advocates is to increase the number of students attending quality charter schools in California as quickly as possible by creating a political environment that is supportive of charter schools. Essential Duties

  • Executes on programs to attract and promote African American and Latino charter school leadership to the DIL initiative, in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Supports in the development and execution of advocacy programs that increase awareness and build support for charter schools among targeted Civil Rights Organizations.
  • Supports in introducing diversity initiatives that consider the unique needs of the organization and broader movement.
  • Supports in the development and execution of training/convening schedules to educate charter school leaders of color (and aspiring leaders) on how to successfully replicate their models and build key community partnerships.
  • Monitors metrics for measuring the effectiveness of CCSA member diversity initiatives implemented and supports in the preparation of quarterly reports to senior management on the value of the initiatives.
  • Keeps current on diversity programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional associations, funders, Charter Support Organizations, educational groups, and professional development efforts).

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred; three to five years of education experience, including preparation and implementation of training materials and diversity initiatives; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience at a charter school site, a Charter Management Organization, single-site charter school, or a non-profit education focused organization.
  • Three to five years of experience in the field of education and/or diversity focused work within the field of education.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Manager, Diversity, Outreach and Community Development does not have direct reports. This role works closely with the Chief Operating Officer regarding diversity initiatives.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, phones and photocopiers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
