Director, Northern California Local Advocacy
Monica serves as Director on the Northern California Local Advocacy team. Monica was a teen mom born and raised in the Central Valley to farm-working parents. After completing community college, Monica began her tenure at UC Davis as a literature major, which led to an 18-year teaching career in Sacramento. Monica taught in K-12 traditional, charter, independent study, and community schools in Sacramento and the Central Valley. Monica's classroom became the groundwork for social justice as her courses were based on restorative justice practices under the frameworks of equity and inclusion. While teaching, she earned an MA in Humanities & Religious Studies at CSU Sacramento and is currently working on a doctorate at USC in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Equity, Restorative Justice & Community Liberation.
