SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) announced its endorsement of Proposition 2, the $10 billion education facilities bond that will be on the November 2024 General Election ballot for voter approval.
This $10 billion education facility bond includes $8.5 billion for K-12 facilities, of which $600 million, or 7.1%, is allocated for charter public schools. This is the largest amount, both in dollars and percentage, that the charter public school community has received in any statewide school bond.
California is home to 1,280 charter public schools that serve more than 700,000 students, 12% of the state’s K-12 student enrollment.
"California's charter public schools are enrolling a record number of students, especially in transitional kindergarten. Proposition 2 is crucial in addressing the urgent need for repairs and upgrades so all public school children can thrive,” said Myrna Castrejón, CCSA President and CEO. “Research shows that inadequate facilities lead to lower achievement, morale, and attendance for students, teachers, and staff. This measure is essential to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality facility where they can succeed, and where teachers can do their best work in supporting students.”
The last statewide bond for community colleges and K-12 schools passed in 2016.
