Fires Across California Continue to Prompt School Closures

October 30, 2019

Updated October 29

Fires across California, including the massive Kincade Fire in Sonoma County and the fast-emerging Getty Fire in Los Angeles, are leading to growing evacuation areas and school closures. In addition to the immediate danger from fires, smoke inhalation and power outages are similarly prompting the closure of schools in far-reaching areas, particularly in counties across the San Francisco Bay Area.

All public schools in Sonoma County are closed through Tuesday, including the following independent charter schools:

  • Credo Charter School
  • Kid Street Charter School
  • Pathways Charter
  • Reach Charter
  • River Montessori Charter
  • Sebastopol Independent Charter
  • Village Charter
  • Woodland Star Charter

For the latest information on school closures in Sonoma County, please contact your school or visit the Sonoma County of Education website. Additional school closures in Marin, Napa, Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Mateo Counties are in effect. For the latest information, please refer to your county office of education or reach out directly to your school. You may also refer to the latest updates from The San Francisco Chronicle.

The growing Getty Fire in Los Angeles is also prompting school closures. Independent charter schools closed Monday include:

  • Citizens of the World - Gateway and Ivy Place campuses
  • Magnolia Science Academy, #4 and #6
  • Multicultural Learning Center
  • New West Charter
  • Palisades Charter High School

Schools in the San Fernando Valley that were closed last Friday due to the Tick fire are expected to be open, but please verify directly with your school.

For additional information, please refer to the Los Angles Unified School District's statement. For additional resources and up to date information on evacuation orders, road closures, and emergency shelters, please refer to the Los Angeles Times.
