Statement: LA. School Board Parcel Tax

February 28, 2019

Today, Myrna Castrejón, President and CEO of the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA), released a statement on L.A. Unified Board's vote to put a parcel tax on the June ballot:

"Today the L.A. Unified Board voted unanimously to put a parcel tax on the ballot in June to increase investment in public education. We applaud the Board and Superintendent for this resolution, which makes clear that every single child in Los Angeles, whether they attend a District or charter public school, is worth an equal investment. The historic L.A. teacher strike shined an important light on the truth that California's public schools have suffered from chronic underfunding for too long. We agree, as Mayor Garcetti said, that it is time for a new day in public education in Los Angeles. We stand ready to support increased funding for public education to improve academic outcomes so all kids can have access to the great schools they deserve."
