SACRAMENTO, CA – California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) President and CEO Myrna Castrejón issued the following statement regarding the Senate passage of SB 739 by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson) on a 28-0 vote:
“Today’s vote provided important recognition from the California State Senate that charter public schools should remain hyper-focused on helping students and teachers recover instead of facing a premature renewal process that distracts them from that mission. The one-year extension on charter renewal will provide authorizers with more complete data that looks beyond the pandemic testing gaps and demonstrates charters’ ability to deliver a high-quality education to students.
“We want to thank Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil for authoring SB 739 and providing the leadership which led to today’s overwhelming support in the State Senate. Senator Alvarado-Gil’s work on this legislation supports student outcomes at all public schools.”
