As Managing Director, Carmen leads policy and advocacy efforts to support member schools across Los Angeles County in the areas of charter school authorization, renewals, growth, funding equity, facilities, and community advocacy. She works closely with charter operators and local elected officials to maximize the positive impact of charter schools in the region. Carmen has been working in the education sector for the past 6 years in various capacities at Fresno State, Leadership Public Schools Richmond, West Contra Costa Unified School District, and Oakland Unified School District.
Prior to joining the Local Advocacy team, Carmen held roles as a Youth Organizer, Parent Lead Organizer, and Manager of CCSA’s Youth Program, where she led parent and student leadership development and advocacy efforts. As a charter alum and first-generation student, she experienced firsthand the value of a charter system that provided her and many students with a pathway to higher education. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the outdoors through hiking.
