California Charter Schools Association President & CEO Myrna Castrejón Issues Statement on Senate Leadership Change

SACRAMENTO, CA  California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) President and CEO Myrna Castrejón issued the following statement regarding the announcement by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) that Senate leadership will transition to Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg) in 2024:

“We want to commend Senate pro Tempore Atkins for her tremendous work for the people of California. In her years of leadership as both Assembly Speaker and Senate pro Tempore, she demonstrated a commitment to education and better academic outcomes for all students. We thank her for recognizing the value of California’s charter public schools and look forward to working with her through the leadership transition.

“We would also like to congratulate Senator Mike McGuire on being chosen as the next President pro Tempore. Senator McGuire’s district is home to nearly 80 charter public schools, which deliver high-quality educational opportunities to the families he represents. We look forward to working with Senator McGuire to strengthen California’s public school system and provide more opportunities for all students to succeed academically.”
