LOS ANGELES – The California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) issued the following statement regarding the planned strike from March 21-23, 2023, by SEIU Local 99 and joined by UTLA:
“The planned three-day strike does not include independent charter public schools that operate within the LAUSD boundaries. Charter public school students and families should know that we will remain open and student learning will continue without interruption.
“LAUSD affiliated charter schools that are run by the District, could include workers on strike. A list of charter schools can be found in the LAUSD directory here.
“CCSA believes in the dignity and value of all education workers and hope that negotiations between labor leaders and the District can be resolved as fairly and quickly as possible with the least amount of harm to students and their needs.
“Learning loss is real and we must work together to mitigate the compounding impacts the pandemic has had on academics as well as the social emotional wellbeing of students.
“At schools where charter public school students and traditional public school students share a campus as designated by LAUSD, we ask union supporters picketing those campuses to respect children and families going into their school to get an education.”
