March 15, 2022

10 awardees from across California selected for academic and extracurricular achievements

LONG BEACH, CA  Today, the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) presented the winners of the 2022 Susan Steelman Bragato Scholarships during the 2022 California Charter School Conference. The annual Bragato Scholarship is awarded to outstanding charter public school high school seniors to help further their academic careers as they pursue higher education. Recipients will each receive $3,000 in recognition of their academic achievements and desire to serve their community. The funds are to assist with each student’s first year of college.

“This year’s Bragato Scholarship winners are each inspirational in their dedication to their academic work and giving back to their communities. They excelled through two years of high school that were dramatically impacted by the pandemic and their accomplishments should be celebrated,” said CCSA President and CEO Myrna Castrejón. “As we recognize 30 years of charter schools in California, I am especially proud to recognize this year’s ten winners who exemplify the promise of a charter public school experience.”

The late Susan Steelman Bragato was a key supporter of the charter school movement and her legacy continues through her namesake scholarship program. Bragato was the co-founder of the first California charter school and founder of the precursor to CCSA (the California Network of Educational Charters).
